Mao attempted to make a transition from a greatly agrarianeconomy into a modern communist society and in turn a world power. He tried to do this by taking many people from their original occupation and moving them into jobs they had no experience in. Many pots and pans were melted down creating useless metal . The plans to become prosperous failed resulting in upwards of 30,000 deaths making it one of the world most catastrophic events
